The presentation is an overview of the main public policies on open education existing in Brazil and the path taken for their creation and implementation since 2016. It highlights how different efforts converged to configure the substantial advance of open education policies in Brazil, such as a small but consistent bottom-up mobilization of civil society, efforts by middle-level managers in political articulation, and efforts in professional development for leadership in open education in managerial and teaching professions. We will discuss the main achievements and challenges that are ahead in the search for new advances in a new political scenario.
